Change can be daunting. The fear of the unknown can cause us to get worried and anxious. However, it is change that keeps us moving forward in life - without it, everything would be put on hold. We’d have no seasons, no big life milestones, no progress.

As humans, we seek to expand, to better ourselves and progress through life. In order to do so, we need some sort of change – whether that be a huge life decision or just a simple adjustment to our everyday routine. It has been proven that it takes anywhere from 2-8 months before a new behaviour becomes an automatic habit. This means for this initial period of a change in behaviour or routine, it can feel strange and unnatural. However, once you get over this hurdle, that big change that we thought we’d never get used to, becomes completely natural and subconscious. If you are struggling to accept change, then here are 3 reasons why it can be beneficial for your wellbeing.

Personal Growth

Change allows you to develop and grow as a person. If you think back to who you were as a child and who you are now – you are sure to have changed a lot - which is not a negative thing! It just shows that you are succeeding and adapting to become the best version of you. The most important thing to remember is that you are making this change for you and nobody else. If you are starting to think you need to adapt yourself in order to please someone – stop and reevaluate. Ask yourself if you are making this change for you or for them and if it will better you in the long run.

Confidence

Change can bring about self-confidence. If you feel like you are lacking confidence in any aspect of life whether that's in a relationship or the workplace, consider making a small or big change to fix that. Have a think about what it is that is not making you the most confident version of yourself. Although many people feel intimidated by a change of scenery or being around new people, this can actually increase your self-confidence. Being around people you have never met before can help you to flourish by proving yourself to be the best you can be.

Happiness and Enjoyment

You may feel like you are bored or stuck in a rut in your life. We get one life and it's only right we make it as enjoyable as possible. You may have got too comfortable being stuck in a job that you hate, or in a city that is making you miserable and are afraid of making the change. If you aren't 100% happy, then making that change will reduce any stress or sadness you may be feeling. Change is one of the main things that dictate our lives. We live for it to achieve progress and development. So before you decide whether or not to make that life-changing decision, start small. Make small changes to ease yourself into the process. You've got this!
