For many of us, looking after our body, mind and soul can be a challenge. More often than not we put others wellbeing in front of our own. From time to time it’s extremely important to put ourselves first. Neglecting your wellbeing can lead to your physical and mental health deteriorating, which can be extremely detrimental in the long run. If you are feeling fatigued and lacking energy and can’t work out why; it is more than likely that you need to take more time out to work on your wellbeing.

This doesn’t mean changing your lifestyle dramatically; there’s plenty of simple things you can do every day to help nourish your wellbeing, and here are 15 of them!

Get Enough Sleep

The recommended hours of sleep you need can vary depending on your age and sleep patterns. However, anywhere between 6 to 9 hours a night is considered best for you to feel energised and awake throughout the day. This will highly help your wellbeing, as you will feel less fatigued, enabling you to be more motivated and feeling good.

Move Your Body

This doesn’t mean doing hours of rigorous exercise every day, it’s just important to get your body moving for at least 30 minutes a day. Whether this is going for a gentle stroll or even learning a new dance routine by following a YouTube tutorial from your bedroom! Anything you do to get your body up and moving will help your body to produce endorphins, the feel-good chemicals and therefore boosting your mood and improving your wellbeing.

Meditate

There are plenty of apps available to help you from beginners level to advanced. Taking 5-10 minutes out of your morning or evening routine will help to ground you and focus on your wellbeing more.

Eat Well

It is so easy to fill your body with all the comfort foods you love on days where you feel too busy to take the time out to make healthy meals. Although it is important to listen to your body and give it the food it craves, this is only good in moderation. You should try to incorporate the recommended 5 fruits and vegetables a day into your meals and snacks. This will ensure your body has all of the nutrients it needs to function energetically.

Drink plenty of water

Keep on top of how much water you are drinking throughout the day, either mentally or by tracking it in an app. This will help you to look after your body and give you an easy thing to achieve by the end of the day.

Take time off of your phone

If you feel as though social media is affecting your mental health, then try to avoid it as much as possible throughout the week, especially an hour before bed, when you should be avoiding your phone completely. Whenever you feel like picking up your phone and scrolling, find something else to do instead, such as reading a magazine or doing a crossword. This will also help to stimulate your brain more, therefore helping you to feel more motivated and energised.

Positive Affirmations

Starting your day off with positive affirmations can help you to feel positive and ready for the day ahead. If you are feeling overwhelmed and anxious about your day, telling yourself that you are ready and are going to complete everything you need to, you will feel a lot better going into the day.

Cut back on caffeine

If you are feeling anxious, caffeine can often make this worse. Instead, try replacing one cup of coffee or tea a day with herbal tea, the health benefits will be much greater.

Talk to someone

If you live alone, it can often be the case that you go your whole day without speaking to another person. This can be harmful to our mental health, so it is important that you reach out to someone – whether this be in person or just via a call. Talk about your day and get everything off of your chest.

Take a nap

Feeling tired and lacking in energy during the middle of your day can often alter the work we produce in the afternoon. Taking a quick power nap can help us to regain our energy we need to complete the day.

Find a new hobby you love

You never know if you like something until you try! Try out new creative or active activities and find one that you love. This will help fill your downtime with something exciting to look forward to.

Live in the moment

Constantly worrying about what tomorrow is going to bring can fill us with anxiety and nerves. Focusing on the present moment can help to improve our mental health and help us to enjoy our lives to the max!

Go outside

Spending time outside can help to refresh our mindset and improve our state of mind. Sitting outside to drink your morning coffee or going on an evening stroll, either way just getting outside is the most important thing!

Take a mental health day

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health, so on days where you’re feeling a little low, working can sometimes just make it worse. If you can, take the whole day or even half the day off to focus on your wellbeing. Spend the day focusing on you – do all of the things you want to do but haven’t found the time to. Even if you spend the day on the sofa binging your favourite show, as long as you are feeling good and happy then that’s all that matters.

Be grateful for what you have got

Being grateful is so important in leading a positive life. Appreciating every little thing in your life that you are grateful for can help to improve our wellbeing by creating a positive mindset and opening our eyes up to all the great things in life.

There's no better time to start looking after your wellbeing than the present!
